The time it takes depends on whether you are donating for the first time or are a regular donor. It is reasonable to suppose that donating plasma may take a lot of time, however, the process is fairly simple and will not take much of your time.
As a first-time donor, how long will it take to donate plasma?
For a first-time donor, it will take up to two hours. This includes registration, answering a detailed medical questionnaire, and going through a detailed health check-up to determine if you are eligible to donate. Once registered, examined, and found eligible, the process of collecting plasma, or plasmapheresis, will begin.
Will it take the same amount of time each time I donate?
No, after your first donation the process is much quicker. Subsequent donations have required a shorter modified screening and therefore take less time than the very first examination.
Most donors are able to donate in less than 90 minutes!
