Becoming a Plasma Donor: Which Documents Do I Need?

So, the idea of helping save lives and having a small tap of income has got hold of you.   

You are eagerly looking forward to making your first appointment to donate plasma at your nearest plasma center.  

But you are not sure what documents have to be shown to be given the green light to donate?  

We got you. This blog will answer all your questions in full detail. But first, a reminder.  

Yes, certain documents must be shown before you are allowed to donate plasma. But first, make sure that you are: 

  • At least 18 years of age 
  • Weighing at least 110 lbs. 
  • In general, healthy and pass tests or screenings 


Now, we can answer your question. Besides checking these boxes, you must carry these documents.  


I. A Valid Government-Issued Photo ID 

Make sure you have one of the following:  

  • Driver’s license 
  • State-issued ID card 
  • Passport 
  • Military ID 


II. Social Security Number Proof 

Make sure you have one of the following: 

  • Social Security Card 
  • W-2 or paycheck stub (that includes full name and full social security number) 
  • Social Security Verification (obtained from your local Social Security office) 
  • If not a US citizen: Border Crossing Card (B1/B2 VISA/BBC). *Not applicable at all centers.* 


III. Proof of Address 

Make sure you have one of the following: 

  • Driver’s license or state-issued ID (as long as the address is current) 
  • W-2 or paycheck stub (as long as the current address is shown) 
  • Mail with your name and address printed on the envelope (postmarked within the last 30 days*) *Varies with company 
  • Copy of your current lease
